The Art Show
The invitation went out to all Scapers to show off their
stuff. The talent and creativity on display was completly off the chart. It's a good thing
that this was not a competition, because every entry was a winner. The variety of media used
to express the FarScape theme was staggering. There were pencil drawings, oil painting,
cartoon renderings, etched glass, beads and jewelry, a beaded diorama, counted cross stitch on
Aida cloth, quilted fabric, soft sculpture, and computer art.
For those who were up to it, a traditional Checker Game
variant, called DRD Attack, was set up for play. The magnetic playing pieces were the little
yellow DRD figures from Toy Vault, with the opposing side painted red. The board was covered
with Moya colored leather-look vinyl with circles cut out for the playing pieces to sit in.
The stitched surface design gave it a very Uncharted Territories look.
The beaded diorama by Loki was titled, "You Can Bead
More". The beaded figure at the computer table represented Loki herself, seated in front
of her IMac, in her home studio. With no pants. It was also a study in perspective with her
large fuzzy slippers in the forground, and the far wall shrinking back behind the figure.
The best thing about the Art Show was that all the viewers
understood the visual references, without explanation. The display was a perfect example of
Fine Art Meets Fine Fan-Art. |
