Lani Tupu is outstanding as Captain Crais as he is falling over the edge of insanity. His voice is really expressive, but it’s his eyes that demonstrate just how obsessive Crais has become.
And of course, there's that hair!

of the Week: |
Rygel to John during the Hynerian Rite of Passage: "I don’t know why I’m bothering. I don’t care what Aeryn thinks. You certainly look dead to me. I don’t know your customs for these situations…not that I care. So I’ll give you the Hynerian Ceremony of Passage and be done with it.
Ahem. John Crichton, valued friend…now wait a minute…’valued friend’ is a bit of a stretch. John Crichton, unwelcome shipmate, hmmm…May you have safe transport to the hallowed realm. Uh…actually, not our Hallowed Realm. No, that’s for Hynerians. Go find your own Hallowed Realm. With the Ceremony of Passage complete, I declare you officially dead and claim all your possessions for myself." |

That Old
Black Magic |
John’s spirit is stolen from his body by an evil magician named Maldis, who does the same thing to Captain Crais. He leaves their bodies where they fall and transports their spirits to his castle where he plans to pit them against each other and feed on their negative emotions and eventual death. John refuses to fight, repeatedly trying to reason with Crais, but Crais is determined to avenge the death of his brother Tauvo, killed in an accident with John’ Farscape 1 module. Maldis doesn’t like all this negotiating business and resorts to showing Crais and John a vision of Tauvo going up in flames. This enrages Crais, who’s already close to insanity, and he intensifies his efforts.
Meanwhile, Aeryn and D’Argo bring Crichton’s body back to the ship and leave it in Rygel’s care. Not being one to miss an opportunity, Rygel performs the Hynerian Ceremony of Passage, declares John officially dead and claims all his possessions, starting with his shoes.
Maldis’s relentless goading and Crais’s continuing attacks finally make Crichton angry enough to fight but just as he is about to snap Crais’s neck, Maldis returns him to his ship. Maldis tells John that his ultimate goal has always been Crais’s Peacekeeper command carrier, a death machine.
Zhaan meets up with a local herb vendor who claims that together they will be able to defeat Maldis if only Zhaan will release her dark impulses. After a couple of practice runs inflicting pain on Rygel and a little two headed bird, they’re ready. Combining their powers, they cast a spell that drags Maldis into the corporeal realm. John is then able to "disperse" him. He immediately reunites with his body on the ship and catches Rygel in the act of stealing the shoes from his feet. But Rygel claims to have revived John after D’Argo and Aeryn left him for dead.
At the very end, Zhaan tells Aeryn and D’Argo that Maldis will coalesce someday, and she demonstrates to John that the dark impulses she tapped into to disperse Maldis are not going to be easy to get back under control. |
