I hated
Scratch ‘N’ Sniff the first time I watched it, but when I
went back to watch it again for this review, I liked it much
better. The third time, I thought it was quite good. You really
need to see it a couple of times because there’s just so much
going on that you miss a lot of the good stuff the first time
through.
For
the second week in a row, one of the Farscape groups gets mixed
up in a money making scheme. This time it’s on a pleasure
planet, where they come up against Fe’Tor’s drug and slave
trade operation.
The
crew returned to Moya after only two days of a ten day vacation.
John is trying to persuade Pilot to allow him and D'Argo to
remain on Moya. Pilot is annoyed that they came back early and
is adamant about banishing them for another eight days. John is
explaining why they came back early and we see the story from
Crichton’s point of view.
John:
He sees parts of the story through his own eyes and other parts
through the eyes of a hangi, a critter with removable eyes that
are used as recording devices. Since John’s still hung over,
the story he’s trying to tell Pilot isn’t very coherent. He
jumps back and forth between viewpoints, with still frames and
quick flashes of action popping up for a couple of seconds every
now and then. The second time I watched, I realized that a lot
of the flashes were of scenes from later in the show, like
little previews.
Chiana:
She makes a cute drunk – I loved that little bunny hop she did
while talking to John & D'Argo. And that fire-baton twirling
thing was awesome.
Chiana
knew John was gonna get socked in the eye before it happened. Is
this a new psychic ability or has she always had it but
we’ve only seen it once before? Either way, I like it.
D'Argo:
I don’t care what he thinks or what he says,
he’s still stuck on Chiana.
Pilot:
For the first two seasons, Pilot was a meek fella, hardly ever
speaking up for himself. Everyone pushed him around,
figuratively speaking, and now he’s mad as hell and he’s not
going to take it anymore. He didn’t believe Crichton’s story
– I didn’t either – and he’s booting him and D'Argo from
Moya for the rest of their vacation. Actually, he’s the one
who’s getting the vacation from their childish squabbling.
Good for you, Pilot!
Raxil:
Raxil, who was one of the best things about Scratch ‘N’
Sniff, set up the whole thing, relying on the great Crichton
and D'Argo to unwittingly retrieve her stolen merchandise. She
reminded me a little bit of a London street urchin with a scam
to run and a victim in sight. |
