New opening sequence thanks to
RamaLad.
First off the title sequence has
unsurprisingly been rearranged. The tune is basically the same,
but the narration is pretty different - now it starts with, "My
name is John Crichton, 3 years ago I was shot through a
wormhole...then I don't remember the differences 'til the end in
which he says to the people of Earth, "Look upward, and share the
wonders I've seen." Kinda cool, but it'll take some getting used
to. The imagery, of course, was also different. Lani Tupu is not
in the credits any longer, so I'm thinking Crais is indeed gone,
for those of you still wondering about this.
Tammy
Mackintosh has NOT been added to the opening credits, in fact, the
list of credited actors in the opening titles is small: Ben,
Claudia, GiGi, Anthony and Wayne. That's it. Flashes of the new
girl, Sikozu, Noranti, the old woman and also Grayza exist in the
montage, but I don't think Tammy's there. My gut feeling, based on
that and the press materials, is that Jool will probably be
written out of the series (at least temporarily) after ep 3 of the
season. Eps two and three feature the Interions.
Thanks Rama!

Here are some cool bits on 401 and
402 from Aint it cool news...Claudia Black in a bikini!!!
Here’s “Roj Blake” with the gory details:
This review is based on a SciFi press tape that contains the
first two episodes of S4. As a fan, and probably to the dismay of
the AICN guys, I’m going to be a bit coy in writing about these
episodes, as there’s really nothing as refreshing as watching a
Farscape episode unfold without knowing too much about it going
in. Additionally, the tape I viewed had not been decoded for
Farscape’s all-new 16 x 9 presentation, so I had to watch it all
kinda tall and skinny. In other words, I have suffered in order to
bring you the information below.
4.1 "Crichton Kicks" by David Kemper
4.1 begins with a recap that ends with the footage of John
floating in space from the S3 ender “Dog with Two Bones”...then we
cut to the on-screen caption, "Some Time Later". The amount of
time? Unsure, but enough time has passed for John to grow his hair
fairly long, sport a thick, heavy beard, conquer wormhole theory
and find himself bored, alone and in constant states of
inebriation on a dying Leviathan named Elack. His only company is
the ship's Pilot (who is very reminiscent of Katherine Hepburn)
and a few of the DRDs - one John has painted red, white and blue
and named "1812". In fact, Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture plays a
sizable role throughout the episode. Before the opening credits
roll, Sikozu crash-lands onboard Elack destroying the bulk of
John's wormhole research in the process.
The episode seems designed, more than
anything else, to introduce the character of Sikozu (Raelee Hill)
and establish her relationship with Crichton. That Season 4 would
begin by focusing primarily on the new girl seems to speak volumes
about what the production team has in store for her later on down
the road. I liked Sikozu quite a bit throughout the course of this
episode. She's strong (big surprise there), smart, and quite the
looker; she also possesses a pretty cool ability (which I'll not
reveal here) that allows the cinematographers to get a bit crazy
when it comes to lensing the scenes in which she uses it. Her
physiology does not "allow for translator microbes", so while John
is able to understand her, they both have to take some time out so
she can (rather speedily) learn his language. Implausible maybe,
but hey...this is Farscape. Kemper certainly doesn't waste any
time abusing her in the same way he thrives on doing to the
regulars.
The majority of the episode, outside of
getting to know Sikozu, is spent telling a somewhat standard
Farscape Cat and Mouse game between John, Sikozu, two of Moya's
crew who appear about halfway through the story and some Grudek
mercenaries who followed Sikozu to the diseased Leviathan. The Cat
and Mouse game is nothing spectacular and more than anything else
is again used to reveal facets of the new girl's
character.
The greatest strengths of "Crichton Kicks"
involve the subtle showcasing of how much our core characters have
changed in the time they've been apart...and that's really all I'm
going to say about that. Again, there are some things that are
best left viewed fresh. I'm sure there's all kinds of Kemper
shading that I just didn't pick up on with one viewing, but the
great thing about the show is I'll see it all on subsequent
viewings.
The story is not great by any means, but it
does seem to do the one thing I suspected Farscape was going to do
as S3 came to a close (and I'm going out on a limb by making this
statement): It "reboots" the Farscape universe. As David Kemper
has been quoted as saying "It'll be the same, but different" and
that's as accurate a statement as anything I can come up with. I
might even go so far as to say that an uninitiated person *might*
be able to start watching Farscape fresh with S4, without too much
problem understanding what's going on. This is, of course, easy
for me to say knowing everything I know, but the show feels new.
It doesn't feel like we're necessarily retreading old ground; that
the saga is in some strange way starting over.
My biggest criticism involves a creature
realised through CGI. It bears more than a passing resemblance to
the animal from Alien 3. I like my Farscape populated with
puppets. 'Nuff said.
Oh, and one more thing before I move on to
Episode 2:
Claudia Black in a bikini.
4.2 "What Was Lost Part 1: Sacrifice" by
Justin Monjo
OK, 4.1 was easy to write about. The less said
about "What Was Lost Part 1", the better. Why? Because I was so
utterly blown away by so many aspects of this episode that the fan
in me refuses to ruin it for anybody.
SciFi's two-year commitment to Farscape has
done more than just simply guarantee 44 episodes; they've
obviously given the production team far more money to work with.
The cinematography is unlike anything I've ever seen in the
program's three-year history. It is truly cinematic in nearly
every way, and I'm sure seeing it in 16 X 9 (as opposed to tall
and skinny as I saw it) is going to add to the episodes craft
ten-fold.
Monjo's script is precisely the kind of
deep character shading at which he excels. Everyone is so
incredibly well drawn (and in many cases, re-drawn) I was floating
on a cloud after viewing this 45-minute
installment.
Here's what I will tell you:
1. You'll feel sympathy for Scorpius by the
end of this episode. What Monjo does to Scorpy in this episode is
undoubtedly one of the cruelest, most demeaning things I've ever
seen done to a recurring character on a television series,
EVER.
2. Grayza's particular brand of evil makes
Scorpy's seem tame and crude by comparison. This is a woman who
thinks with her head, not her gut. In Scorpius, John had a worthy
adversary with whom he could put up a good fight. It's going to be
a much tougher battle with Grayza, especially if the production
team can sustain what makes her so malevolent - and it's something
that really only Farscape can pull off effectively.
3. Jool finally gets to be the character
she's always needed to be.
4. The Old Woman/Noranti (or "Wrinkles" or
"Granny" as she's dubbed by various characters) is somebody who
will wreak more havoc for the crew of Moya and cause more change
than any other shipmate has before her.
5. The production team simply must be
indulging in hallucinogens before they begin the
workday.
My only criticism of 4.2 is something that
is still confounding me: in the "Previously on Farscape" tag at
the beginning of the episode, there are two or three quick scenes
that involve Grazya/Scorpy/Braca that I've never seen before; they
certainly weren't in the final four of S3 and they weren't in 4.1
so I do NOT know where they came from, and yet they seemed
somewhat necessary to the understanding of 4.2. I'm mystified.
Perhaps this is some kind of weird SciFi frell-up that will be
rectified by the time of broadcast.
Recently I chatted with some other Farscape
fans about the possibility of the show “Jumping the Shark” in the
future. If "What Was Lost Part 1: Sacrifice" is any indication of
the overall quality of what we’re to be given over the course of
S4 in terms of cinematography, characterization, effects, writing,
acting, direction and the many other aspects that make Farscape
the show that it has become, then there is simply no danger of
this happening within the confines of the upcoming 22 episode
block.
Hope this helps!

This just in from the Ultimate
Farscape Bboard!!
By phoenix52: More unverified
spoilage?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
These
were from the press kit, reported on Usenet. I'm
paraphrasing....
Crais and Jool not in the credits. Three new
ladies in montage. They are not credited, although they are
apparently hyping the Sikozu character like crazy; expect her to
be a major player. She is an expert on Leviathans and thinks
everyone is of substandard intellect, but Crichton surprises
her.
E1 starts some time after DW2B as we know, on
a decaying Leviathan named Elack whose pilot is a bit narcoleptic.
John has a beard and spends time getting drunk. He has mastered
wormholes. Sikozu appears within minutes of the opening when she
comes aboard Elack.
[Will she straddle his face???]
Not sure, but Aeryn may not reappear until
Episode 5.
[Well, it's good to know she shows up at
all]
Grayza becomes the number one bad guy as
Scorpius may be the most valuable ally, if they can trust
him.

Here is a great little bit of info from
janet from Down Under. Thanks Janet Very cool!
hi mate
if you've been watching the
scifi bborad - you may have picked up on a possible spoiler that
us aussie farscape fans discovered sunday night
sunday
(28th April) was the annual Logie awards (kinda like the
emmy's).
We were all Farscape guest cast spotting as
normal.
Anyway - there sitting at the "All Saints" table was
Tammy McIntosh (couldnt miss her -the camera man showed her quite
often) All Saints is a medical drama - most popular here in
Australia.
Well - not too panicked at this stage as there were
photos around after last years awards with Claudia Black at the
"Water Rats" table - and she's still in Farscape.
Later on
though - the sense of "oops somethings going on here" became
stronger when "All Saints" won most popular show award. Tammy was
up on stage with the rest of the cast, standing right behind the
girl doing the acceptance speach. Again later, whilst going
through clips of the show to highlight the talents of two of the
show's cast members, there was Tammy in the background wearing a
nurses uniform. This, in scenes that havent gone to air here yet.
Given that All Saints shoots 44 weeks of the year - one would
assume that Tammy isnt trying to shoot two shows at once, but has
left Farscape and is now on All Saints. Or maybe she's a
semi-regular on both shows? mmmmm.......
Gotta love
speculation dont ya??

Liz has put two and two together and its
sound like a bit of spoilage worth posting... Thanks Liz you
rock! Please keep updating your whiteboard.
<G>
Fran at the con said that she was in
episode 73, Ben's episode. We connected that with a statement
she said about coming back as one of her previous characters.
We narrowed that down to Raxil and M'Lee for obvious reasons.
Which then led us to hypothesize why one of those characters
would be in Ben's ep.

4-26-02 Big News
Well I got a couple of big bits
from a new source... Ladies and Gentlemen lets welcome Deep
throat... As always
this is a new source so we must not take there word as
gospel...
1) The first four eps of season four were
rewritten b/c "they" wanted a more powerful, action-oriented
lead in. Second ep of season was three weeks behind schedule.
They had to pull material that they didn't want to use yet and
instead bump it up to be used in these first four
eps. <There is more but I chose not to post
it.>
2) Wayne, Lani and David Franklin (Braca)
are back in their roles for season four. Wayne as Scorpy AND
Harvey. Braca is alive and he's being given MORE screen
time.
3) Claudia is involved in the very
least with the second episode of season four. She was filming
this at Homebush will the rest (Ben, Wayne, Lani, and David)
were at the studios in the harbor. <There is more but I choose not to post
it.>
4) Lani is back as Crais.... somehow.
I asked if he was back as just Pilot or as Crais. Deep throat...
said both Lani and Wayne were filming!
I would like to thank Deep Throat for this interesting information.

Magazine #6
Season 4 Season to be “The Best Year
Yet!”
Six weeks into the filming schedule for
season four of Farscape, David Kemper talks to Martin Eden about
how it’s all shaping up.
“Oh sh*t,” says executive producer David
Kemper on the phone from Sydney. “Are we supposed to be doing
season four? Ben and I have been surfing. Oh cr*p. I’ve gotta
write a script.”
As fans of his regular Farscape magazine
column will have gathered, Kemper is, of course, just joking
around with us. Season four began filming on 7 January 2002 at the
Homebush Bay Studios in Sydney and at the time of writing (mid
February), four episodes were already pretty much in the can.
“We’re actually seeing the rough cut of the first episode next
week.” Says Kemper, excitedly, “and I’ve heard from the editor and
the people in post-production that you’re not goanna believe it.
It’s gonna twist people around and people are gonna say, ‘we hate
you and we love, you.’ I can’t tell you what’s going on – just
know that you won’t be disappointed and it’ll be Farscape. We just
keep pushing it. You’ll just go ‘wow’.”
As for the general direction of season
four, Kemper indicates that it will be another big year for
Crichton. “Crichton’s been out in space long enough that he’s no
longer a stranger to his environment. And now I think it might be
time for him to stop being reactive and maybe become a little
proactive. I think this year Crichton has some decisions to make
and some goals to set for himself.”
“This year’s gonna start out the way it
always does,” continues Kemper. “We’re starting a new chapter in
the book. However because I like to do things differently, this
season will start out with a significant difference in how we tell
the story and viewers will not be able to predict what’s
happening. They’ll follow it, they’ll scream at the their TV,
they’ll yell at us, and they’ll go on this journey.
“We’re gonna be throwing a great deal of
surprises at the fans totally. I can only tell you that we know
specifically the stories through the first 14 episodes. And there
isn’t one episode there that I’m not already proud of. I’ve been
doing this for a number of years. You can tell when something’s
working, and it’s working. And I’m very hopeful at this early
stage that this will be the best year yet.
“The show will also look very different
this year. Not only will there be a new title sequence, but the
show will not be broadcast in widescreen, much to the excitement
of the whole Farscape cast and crew.
All in all, it’s looking highly promising.
“We’re making great Farscape,” Kemper concluded. “Great, great
Farscape.”
Here is a great installment
of info from Bandicoot,
Interviews with David Kemper
and Rockne S. O'Bannon in issue 90 of
Dreamwatch. heres some
of the juicer stuff...
Also, some pictures... one of
which I dont recognise, I've seen all but
three episodes,
but a friend who has seen ALL the series didnt recognise
it
either. It shows Crichton, wearing sunglasses, standing by
pilot,
holding a circus poster that has a pic of pilot with
the words "ALIVE!
Lobster boy. FROM SPACE!" the along the
bottom of the poster, "Dont let
your children too close!!!
It's Weeeeird! Count his arms!". I'll try and
get a scan of
it for you.
Now, the
interviews...
RSB
Of my latter two scripts for
season three, [Fractures] delves into the
Crichton/Aeryn
relationship more deeply, and the other [Lion's den part
2]
is a particularly significant episode for Captain
Crais.
(Don't know if I'm looking
into this, but unless he means that apperant
death is
significant, I think Crais will be back from that)
Also, he
syas...
"I guess if I were to
crystalise the upcomming season, I'd refer to it
as
'FARSCAPE EXTREME".
DK
(In reply to "Any clues
about season four?")
In the same way we've
played around with the two Crichtons [in season three], we are
going to explode another convention that I beleive no
other
science fiction space show has done. We're going to do another
of
those conventions and it's going to look like, "Oh yeah,
I've seen this:
this is the 'blank-blank' episode..." But
what viewers aren't going to
get is that we're doing it in a
radically different way, and it's not
the 'blank-blank'
episode, it's the 'blank-blank' theme [of the year].
It's
going to unfold in a radically unique way, and it will sustain
itself in the way that the two crichtons idea sustaind
itself. And it
will radically change the
show.
Bandicoot,
Thanks for the great
Info!!!
